Solar Power, For all of Melbourne

My forum friends can be such a bunch of BAKA sometimes. I thought going to Japani-Melbourne Convention was a great idea; you know, support a great idea in its infancy. With all the great anime coming out of our fair city recently, someone thought it’d be a good idea to have a smaller convention, JUST to celebrate what Dinky-Dai-Anime has managed to churn out. But all my forum friends said it was lame, and that no one would be there, because Melbourne is a terrible place for new cartoons…all that garbage. Uh, excuse ALL of you. If everyone had the same attitude, then no one would show up…which is mostly what happened. And I made a costume!!

Joke’s on them: I got to preview the latest in the works, ‘Oh My, How Shocking!’, a slice-of-life about commercial solar systems and the brave men and women on the frontier of introducing cleaner energy to a world that currently does not understand its benefits.

Well, it’s actually about one plucky young girl who has an extreme passion for solar power, and she’s gained the nickname ‘Spark Princess’ because of her strange disposition and love for the energy provided by the sun. I’m thinking this is going to follow a kind of setup where the protagonist is initially weak but has a great deal of potential. In this case you replace the protagonist with solar power being unknown and gaining popularity through their actions and awareness campaigns.

And look, sometimes forcing something like commercial solar into a show can be slightly cringey. Social issues ruining a story, and all that. But I saw a preview, surrounded by an audience of four people, and I have some serious hope for this one. I particularly liked the part where our plucky protagonist stayed up all night converting the commercial LED lighting in her local shop into energy-saver bulbs. The music swelled, the animation was perfect…and I got to see it first. In your faces, non-believers!
