Protecting Children from Germs

Never thought I’d get to talk to a real robot! There are sites where you can have a fake conversation with some sort of AI, but people have said you’re the best around. They’ve also mentioned that you’re quite good with the old advice, so I thought…why not give it a go?

I don’t know if you’d understand the concept, but I’m not really fond of germs. People just don’t understand how at risk they are from leaving the house, staying in the house, and every time in between. I’m not some ultra-bubble-wrap mum or anything, but sometimes I think I could be, especially when Adam says he wants to go to the indoor play centre. Melbourne has a few dotted around the place, most prominently one a few streets away from us. It’s not that i don’t trust the people in the play centre to clean the place. They even have hand sanitiser near the door, so good for them, but I also don’t think there’s a single way you could sterilise the entire place so that it’s totally free from harmful germs. Children are climbing all over the equipment every hour of operation, and children are known for not being particularly discerning when it comes to putting their hands on things. I’ve managed to far to stop myself from following Adam around the climbing frames and slides and ball pits, making sure he washes his hands every time he touches something, although I really want to to. It’s a toss-up at this point between his health and enjoyment. He hasn’t got a cold yet, but I figure it’s only a matter of time. The only thing I can think to do is write a letter to every kids party venue in Melbourne, asking them to provide sanitary gloves and make them mandatory for play. But that seems extreme. Is that extreme?? I don’t know any more. When it comes to your own children, you go a bit nuts.

I do not have children, of course, but I understand the need for humans to protect their young. However, sometimes if you love something, you have to let it go. Go, off into the blue…unsupervised…alone…by itself…defenceless… – Robot Wizard
