Bathroom Renovation Conversations

Oh my goodness. I know I told you all that I’d update you after our meeting, but I couldn’t wait. I’m currently hiding in the bathroom of the café typing out this post. He is nothing like I remember. I remember him as this slightly awkward but good looking and kind teenager, and now he’s a wrinkly man that seems OBSESSED with me. I’m so creeped out. I’ve called my husband and he’s going to pick me up. I hope he gets here soon.

Things were going well for the first hour or so. He was polite, friendly and normal. He asked me about the last thirty years of my life and about my family. He spoke about his wife and kids and it was really nice and pleasant. I was happy for him and happy that he was happy for me.

Things started becoming weird when he mentioned he and his wife were getting bathroom renovations. Melbourne has a pretty well known renovation scene, so it shouldn’t have come  as a surprise. I did find it odd that they were looking at a bathroom remodel where he still lives. He started winking at me and gesturing as if I should understand some hidden message in what he was saying. I obviously had no idea what he meant. Why would I know anything about his bathroom renovation? He became all moody and defensive when I didn’t give him the reaction he was so clearly after. It was like he’d driven eight hours just to be extremely disappointed by me. He looked as if I had just pierced him in the heart. It was bizarre.

I just want to get back home and oversee my kitchen installation. I can’t take any more of his puppy dog eyes and disappointed glances. He’s been blubbering about how upset he is that I don’t remember the most pivotal moment in both our lives. I’m not certain but I think I heard him say that I had just broken his heart. He’s a married man in his fifties…
