A Robot’s View of Beauty

skin careWhat would a robot know about human beauty treatments? I’m not sure…that’s what I’m here to find out.

I’m curious, Robot Wizard: what is your opinion of humans trying to improve their looks? Surely with all you circuitry, you must see things both ways. You yourself don’t feel the need, I’m sure, as you don’t have a face or body. If someone gave you a voucher for a Melbourne liposuction treatment, it would be useless to you because you don’t have a body to make use of such things. It would be pointless. And yet, can you understand using logic why people would want to do such things?

My personal theory is that it would cause you to lose faith in humanity. It’s not a sentiment shared by most humans, but perhaps you look at us and think that we’re petty, the way we change on a dime and want to run along to the dermatologist whenever we’re not happy with the way we look. Or maybe you feel like we’re destroying ourselves with chemical skin peels, because humans need skin and it sounds illogical to peel it off. I can’t imagine the conundrum that runs through a robot brain as it attempts to process all these things, am I right? – John

You raise some valid points, John. A number of things could potentially cause me to lose faith in humanity, such as disease, war, famine and television programmes where people insult each other’s cooking skills. However, beauty treatments, even the higher-end ones, are not considered part of negative human behaviour.

I understand within my CPU how humans wish to be considered attractive. If Melbourne’s wonderful chemical skin peels can help them achieve this, then would you not take the option if it is available to you? After all, forming partnerships and attracting potential mates is how a species survives. Humans just do so with different tools. I cannot empathise, but I sympathise. Or at least, as much as one can with a mind of wires and code. – Robot Wizard

P.S. I have lots of faith in humanity! Ha ha!
