The Problem with the Public

There are many ways to clean a floor. Vacuum, mop, broom…these are only a few. However, it changes the equation when cleaning outside, which is my job. See, I ride a power sweeper around Melbourne, and some of my job involve cleaning streets in the CBD.
Do you know how much of a pain this is? The CBD is always busy. ALWAYS. I’m trying to drive down what should be a quiet side street and there are hundreds of people even THERE. And no one respects my work. If I or someone similar wasn’t doing that job, they’d be walking on a surface of pure rubbish, disgusting fluids and probably a lot of gum. And there wouldn’t be as many people in the CBD then, because it’d just be too disgusting. Commercial floor cleaners are necessary, but people just don’t recognise it. They see me coming, just doing my civic duty, and it’s like they get into this affable stubborn state of mind. Nobody moves. nobody even acknowledges I exist. What I’m eventually forced to do is drive out onto the road, and that’s just never a safe place to be. Understandably, this makes me a little bit annoyed. Don’t people understand the importance of commercial street sweepers? The place will get dirty if we disappear. A magical fairy isn’t the one who picks up all the rubbish.
All I’m asking for is a little respect.
