Ice skating in Alaska

Hello. I have recently decided I am going to m
ove to Alaska and was wondering what skills I would need in order to successfully complete such an undertaking. I realise that it is difficult to fully prepare for any possible future, particularly when making as large and significant a change as this one, but shall endeavour to do so regardless. In doing this, so far I have taken part in a five day hike, learnt to fish, and had practice driving on the ice. However, I am worried this may be insufficient.
What I am most concerned over is my ability to maneuver on the ice. My understanding of Alaska and its pastimes assures me that I will be required to ice skate. Melbourne does not have any ice skating rinks in my locality as far as I am aware and I do not know where I can find somewhere to learn and practice these skills. To the best of my best of knowledge I have not been on the ice since I was a child. When I was either ten or eleven I attended a birthday party which was held at an ice skating rink. Thus it follows that ice skating rinks must function as birthday venues in Melbourne. Aside from that I have no other memory of being on the ice or indeed of ice skating.
I am not sure exactly how common performing ice skating and other ice-based activities is in Alaska but I want to be prepared. I know that many of my mannerisms are likely to put me in a position from which it is awkward to interact socially and I hope that my proficiency in other skills may compensate for my lack of social prowess. Do you believe this is the right course of action for me under my circumstances?
