Diving for the Good Stuff

You can find the most interesting things in a bin. If only people knew that they were throwing away perfectly good produce, interesting products…really, the noble art of dumpster diving gets a bad name. It’s probably mostly the smell, though there are on-the-job hazards. Take mobile skip bins around Brisbane, for example. Those guys are so efficient, they can come and grab a bin at any time. This goes double if it happens to be full. And unfortunately, bins that are full just so happen to be where you find the best stuff. What a dilemma!
You need to wait until the bin is full to get the best chance, but when it IS full, you have only a short window of time before it becomes empty. Because it gets…emptied. And you really don’t want that to happen while you’re scrounging around inside of it. It happened to me once, and I had to do a mad scramble before I got dumped at the dump. I do like bins, but not enough to go on a road trip inside of one.
I used to help out the Brisbane mobile skip people, y’know. You’d hate for things to go to waste, so i rescue what needs to be rescued. A bit of cleaning, and viola…a lighter bin, a heavier wallet for me.
