Cleaning Up this Town

cleaning streetsThis city it truly recovering from what it used to be.

It all came after the airing of that film…I always forget the name, but it was the one that taught everyone to respect Canberra rubbish removal, or the whole dang place would just collapse into chaos. It wasn’t a problem that could be blamed on young people, or any one group, and I think people finally realised that. So, we’re in a golden age of sorts. Or just an age in which you can walk down the street without getting discarded food packaging stuck on your shoe. It’s a time in which you don’t see bins with overflowing rubbish sitting on street corners because people actually take them and put them in the right place.

Overnight, it seems, the city has turned around. The only significant problem still remaining is what to do with all of the bins. In the last few years, a lot of them have seen fair amounts of abuse from everything that happened. It looks like we’re going to need new bins, and stat, otherwise the rubbish collection people are going to start complaining about bins just sort of imploding when they try to pick them up. As I’ve said, it was a tumultuous time for our city. Even the garden waste collection is getting difficult. A few times I saw youths using them for races, or more nefarious purposes. Garden waste in the city of Canberra has to go somewhere…but it’s not those rickety old bins.

It sounds like you’re in need of a new start. Try eating an orange, or going on a very, very long holiday. I promise you’ll feel better! – Robot Wizard
