I Need Ideas, and Fast

Agapanthus_Midnight_CascadeSome people hear what I do for a job and think it sounds like the best in the world. Not only do I actually work for THE biggest plant-related TV show on the planet, but I’m in charge of crafting ideas for the upcoming seasons! What wonderful fun!

Well, it WOULD be wonderful fun, except I’ve hit a wall and can’t think of anything. We had a Name That Plant! brainstorming session yesterday, and our first big one for the upcoming season. I was the only person in the room who didn’t come up with a single valid idea. Rosie had this brilliant plan where every contestant is given an agapanthus midnight cascade. They have beautiful shades, and I’ve even grown a few myself…but that’s beside the point. Anyway, the idea was that they would be given a time limit of an hour to arrange it into a perfect flower arrangement using a frangipani lulus blood (the colours would clash horribly) AND they had to make an ordinary daffodil the centrepiece. It would require every single ounce of their creativity. Naturally, we’re going to make that one around week five or six, when the weak ones have been weeded out and we’re getting towards the top tier of contestants. It’s tough. Man, I can just see the dramatic camera angles when they’re told what they have to do!

But still, I have no ideas of my own. Not even gazing out at my modest flower garden is giving me inspiration like it used to. Usually I just have to whip out my notebook, stare at one of my many flowering creations and I’m filled with all kinds of devious ideas. When I had the idea to give the contestants an entire lilium double collection and have them grow it with only an hour of sunlight in a week. There was a lot of hair tearing that week.

That’s what I need. But my brain just won’t give me anything!

Organic things are certainly puzzling. Wouldn’t it be better if they all just…went away? – Root Wizard
