Saving the planet one step at a time

I think have the most energy efficient house on the block. I’m very serious about the environment and making sure I’m doing my best to leave a light footprint on the earth. A lot of people don’t even care about being energy efficient or things like recycling. I try my best to get my friends and family to see how important taking care of mother earth is but they don’t seem to really care. I do try and guilt them when I see them throwing things away that could be recycled or reused. I’ve replaced all my lights with energy efficient LED globes and have installed a rainwater tank. I’m trying to only use two buckets of water every day, it’s rather tricky. I had a bunch of new glass installed around the house, double glazed windows are much more affordable that most people would think.

They are supposed to be great at keeping the hot sun from warming up your home. Double glazed windows are also great at keeping the heat in during the winter months so you don’t have to leave your heater on as long. I’m thinking of painting one side of the house black and the other side white to see what change that makes to the temperature inside. I’ve already been in touch with a few Melbourne based interior painters and asked them their opinion on energy saving colours. Turns out you can paint your home to reflect the heat so you don’t need an air con on hot days.  I don’t mind what the neighbours think as long as I’m saving energy. Global warming is a big problem and people can’t just put their head in the sand and forget about it. I’m really impressed with how quickly the energy saving windows were installed. It’s made a huge difference around the place. I don’t need to leave my heater on anywhere near as long as I used to. My power and heating bills are practically halved with all the energy efficient methods I have put in place. I can’t wait to meet the house painter, Melbourne is full of interesting people. Soon as the interior painter has put on the final coat I’m going to invite all my neighbours around for a lecture about saving the planet. I’m going to show them all the things I’ve done that has saved me a lot of money on bills. If they don’t want to do it for planet saving reasons, they’ll do it for money saving reasons. Either way it’s a win for the planet.
